...At PS 69 in Jackson Heights, a Bangladeshi-American voter could not find his name in the voter rolls even though he had voted at the same site in 1996, and registered again after poll workers could not find his name during the 2005 primaries and was asked to vote by affidavit ballot. He voted again this year by affidavit ballot. Another Bangladeshi American was asked to provide I.D. even though he had voted before.
At South Ridge Co-ops in Jackson Heights, a Spanish interpreter was available but poll workers did not seek the interpreter’s assistance when a voter needed it....

Jackson Hts. clinic sets free tests for kids

As winter - the worst time of the year for asthma attacks - approaches, a Jackson Heights neighborhood health care facility is stepping up a campaign to protect local children from the potentially deadly disease.

The Jackson Heights Health Center, an affiliate of New York Hospital Queens, began administering free asthma evaluations and flu shots to children on Monday and will do so on selected days through next Wednesday. The center is at 73-15 Northern Blvd....

...The association noted that asthmatic children often need medication two to three times a day, an expense that many families in Jackson Heights' large immigrant population may not be able to afford....

Raj Patel maneuvered his minivan into a nice parking spot along a busy shopping stretch on 74th Street in Jackson Heights, but he figured it was a lucky break....

In Washington Heights, 29 percent voted for Bloomberg -- compared with 20 percent in a largely Puerto Rican district in East Harlem that even Bloomberg aides conceded was Ferrer territory. But some Queens neighborhoods with large populations of Central American immigrants, including Corona and Jackson Heights, went for Bloomberg....
